The clutch pin is made of brass instead of plastic to minimize wear.
We chose brass as the material for the coupling bolts because it has two decisive advantages over stainless steel .
On the one hand, the brass alloy in question is rich in zinc, which is why this alloy is often used as a bearing material with good emergency running properties.
The second advantage over stainless steel or steel is the wear of the release lever. BMW has sensibly chosen the material pairing so that the cheaper ball pin wears out and the expensive release lever remains wear-free. If you now install a ball pin made of steel or stainless steel, the intended direction of wear is reversed. As a result, the pin remains intact, but the release lever wears out.
For this reason, in our view, manufacturing from brass makes sense, even if the raw material is a little more expensive.
When installing the clutch pins, please use a new retaining spring and grease the head of the pin.
